Chapter 43

Although Qi Qiu was very low-key and seemed to be quietly carrying out normal studies in Russia, Beliak immediately felt that he had an aura similar to Yuri’s.

Beliak could see the dark side behind Qi Qiu, the desire and fear that he was different.

But Chinese people had good self-control, and Qi Qiu wasn’t as crazy as Yuri. As Beliak started working hard to try and approach Qi Qiu in the hopes of reshaping the relationship he had with Yuri back then, he discovered that Qi Qiu was highly skilled in feng shui.

He knew about feng shui, but after listening to Qi Qiu’s systematic explanation for the first time, he began to understand that Chinese mysticism was very different from mysticism in foreign countries, although there were some similarities.

In Chinese mysticism, there was one factor that was very clear—in fact, it was much clearer than it was in foreign countries—and that was one’s magic lineage.

Many feng shui techniques could only be used by special people and were rendered useless if anyone else tried them. Such special people were often blood relatives, so even when the father died, the feng shui techniques could be designed to be passed on to the next generation.

Qi Qiu came from a peculiar magical lineage. When he finished talking to Beliak, he looked at the older man and said to him, “You’re going to hurt me and eventually kill me.”

Beliak was surprised—he had indeed prepared a group of thugs to kidnap Qi Qiu—and asked, “How do you know?”

“Well, everyone in our family knows when they’re going to die. I can even tell you how you’re going to die if you want?”

Beliak laughed, “Then how will I die?”

“You’ll die in an overwhelmingly smelly room,” Qi Qiu said. “But there is a way to save you from dying.”

“What is it?” Beliak looked at him with a great deal of interest.

“If you have the opportunity to meet with a Chinese person, you can tell them all about your experiences. Not only will you not die, but your wish will also come true.”

Beliak immediately became excited at that time, thinking that the Chinese person Qi Qiu was referring to was the Chinese man who had told him about the imaginary person spell before.

“I have one thing I want you to help me with,” Qi Qiu said to him. “If you have a chance to meet that Chinese person and mention me when telling your story, then I want you to give them a message for me: now that the door is no longer guarded, they should get started.”(1)

Beliak was puzzled. Of course, he didn’t believe what Qi Qiu was saying at that time so he motioned for the thugs to come over and kidnap Qi Qiu.

Although Qi Qiu claimed to know everything, he still balked at the idea of being ordered to set up a feng shui array to kill others. But he was at the age where he would easily submit to pain, so after being tortured, he finally broke down and did as Beliak ordered.

In the midst of that terrible pain, when Qi Qiu was at his most uncomfortable, he always chanted a certain phrase: This is inevitable, I should accept it. This is inevitable.

Black Glasses looked at the other man silently. Beliak finished speaking and then breathed a sigh of relief, “When I finally killed him, he was both calm and miserable. I found it hard to believe that someone would show these two emotions at the same time, but now that I’ve delivered his message, I think it’s really amazing. When you didn’t offer to negotiate with me, I thought that he had made a mistake. By the way, is it possible to escape the outcome of Chinese divination?”

“Ordinary people can’t, but he could have. It’s just that he chose torture and death because he must have calculated a future that was more terrible than his death. This may have been the only way for him to convey the message to me,” Black Glasses said. “But based on what you’ve said so far, you aren’t killing the males in Yuri’s family because this spell requires sacrificing all the males in the family, it’s simply because you want to own the house yourself.”

“Well, the greatest ability of Qi Qiu’s magical lineage is divination. He told me that when I killed all the males in Yuri’s family, the man who would fulfill my wish would appear. Since the Chinese man could tell immediately if this house belonged to me, as long as I could meet this requirement, he would appear right away and use his ability. Qi Qiu also said that I need to get all the Bon ceremonies ready so that when this Chinese person comes, he can start immediately.”

“Oh, so this is a prediction of the future, a possible future.”

“Yes, but all the males in Yuri’s family must die before that future can be realized. And before that man appeared, I still needed to meet one more condition—Yuri had to die. I used a hallucinogen and coerced him into committing suicide.”

Beliak glanced at Black Glasses, who was unmoved by this confession.

“So you’re not summoning the Dark Goddess by doing all of this.”

“We are summoning the Dark Goddess, at least that’s what Yuri thought,” Beliak said. “Otherwise, how could I persuade him to commit suicide? I lied and told him that the Dark Goddess summoned by Xingchou could negate his previous request. He just needed to offer up his own blood as a sacrifice to Xingchou. But he took so many hallucinogens that he didn’t realize how deeply he stabbed the ice pick into his throat.”

Black Glasses glanced at Beliak’s stomach.

Beliak put his hand over his stomach and said, “You think that the Dark Goddess will come here after the last male in Yuri’s family dies, right? But that’s not correct. This isn’t a demon fetus in my stomach. Once the last male dies, that Chinese man will appear again and will bring Yuri back from that world. My stomach has other uses.”

He touched his stomach and then started unbuttoning his shirt. Black Glasses saw that he had a claymore strapped to his stomach, with a pressure-bearing steel plate wrapped around his waist.

“The gunpowder has been adjusted so that I won’t be fatally wounded, but anything 180 degrees in front of me will die. After that Chinese man brings Yuri to me, I plan on detonating this. That way, no one else in this world will know where Yuri came from.”

“Is it really necessary?”

“He’s a monster,” Beliak said, “but no creature can survive this.”

“Did Qi Qiu ever tell you what the end result between you and me was going to be?” Black Glasses asked.

Beliak smiled, “The Chinese man can also bring back what you lost. You and I will become the same kind of person.”

Black Glasses also smiled before saying, “Do you know what the first lesson in the Qi family’s teachings is?”

“What is it?”

“It’s how to tell a lie that people won’t doubt until they die.” Black Glasses’ smile turned very smug.

Seeing that Beliak didn’t understand, Black Glasses explained, “Qi Qiu did so much just because he wanted you to believe that he believed in fate. That way, it would seem like every bit of information he disclosed couldn’t be false. Everything he told you was true, but it was all just for the purpose of deceiving you on the most crucial thing. When he did finally lie to you, you had long since dropped your guard against him.”

Before Beliak could fully understand this, Black Glasses added, “At least one thing Qi Qiu said was right—you will die in an overwhelmingly smelly room.”

“You won’t take me to the last male in Yuri’s family? The Chinese man won’t appear? He lied to me?”

“Mm-hmm.”

“Don’t you want to get back what you lost? We need that man!” Beliak yelled before suddenly smiling, “Are you wavering? It doesn’t matter, you can waver but you’ll make up your mind in the end. Qi Qiu wouldn’t make a mistake.”

“Do you know any places that have delicious crabs?” Black Glasses suddenly asked.

Beliak stared at him blankly, “What?”

“Forget it, I’ll check myself. I want to eat something good after I finish this job.” Black Glasses stood up. The fire Xie Yuchen had set earlier had already spread.

He took three copper coins from his pocket, threw them on the ground, looked at them, and then walked straight out of the room.

“What’s this?”

“It’s the Qimen Eight Calculations method to see if you can survive until dawn,” Black Glasses said. “According to that, you’re screwed. You should watch where you step.”

Beliak was puzzled and stood there in a daze for a while before he finally came to his senses. But by this time, Black Glasses was already far away. He immediately rushed over to catch Black Glasses but suddenly stepped on the rotten fish and slipped. As his whole body pitched forward, the claymore tied to his stomach got hooked on the corner of the nearby table and fell to the ground. He could do nothing but watch as the claymore fell in front of him, the English words on the front filling his vision: Front Toward Enemy.

Almost at the same time, a bottle of smelly wine that was on the table fell onto his hand and hit the detonator button.

Black Glasses heard a loud bang behind him in the corridor.

When he reached the main entrance, he received a phone call from Su Wan, “Master! That small upside-down figure is chasing us!! Why didn’t he go over to you?!”

“Did you pee in the woods?”

“It’s all woods here! What, were we supposed to drink it?”

Black Glasses laughed, “It’s alright, it’s just a small punishment to teach you a lesson. You’ll be fine if you last until dawn!”

Black Glasses hung up the phone and saw that all of the servants outside were calling for an ambulance.

A house with an ancient god wouldn’t burn down so easily. Otherwise, the previous owner would have done it a long time ago.

He looked around and saw that there weren’t any cars so he started walking on the mountain road. It was deserted and long but he really needed time to think about what was going to happen now.

TN Notes:

(1) If anyone cares, this seems to go with Chapter 39 of “Ten Thousand Mountains in the Extreme Night” (what I’ve been calling Restart Part 4).

Looks like the author updated “Notes in Rain Village” again (Part 3 maybe?) so I guess I’ll start working on that after I finish the remaining 3 Heihua chapters.

And if he meant so much to Yuri why did he choose beliak to give up?

Even though they were murderers I kinda feel sad for them, it’s just a tragic story and poor Qi Qiu suffered sucha horrible fate for nothing 🥲🥺
