Chapter 59 Large Tomb

Chen Pi Ah Si wasn’t an ordinary person. Years of experience in this line of work made him immediately realize that the situation here was wrong. First of all, Ah Xi must have been caught by something. For Chen Pi Ah Si, Ah Xi’s being caught was equivalent to me hearing that Black Glasses had been caught. I knew how powerful Black Glasses was, so a situation that even he couldn’t cope with must be extremely unimaginable.

At the same time, this also signified that this was a new situation. Ah Xi wouldn’t die from carelessness, nor from any crisis he had dealt with before, which meant that he must have encountered something he had never seen before.

But instead of being afraid, Chen Pi Ah Si’s expression immediately brightened—there was an ancient tomb here, and something very strange had happened in it. The tomb must be large, and there were probably some good things in it.

Excellent things.

“Master Si?” The others were waiting for his response, but he just smiled and looked at Ah Bai Xiang before saying to the people around him, “Have everyone start preparing.”

“Prepare what?”

“To go underground.” Chen Pi Ah Si lit a local cigarette(1), “Have the scout go first and see where Ah Xi went before. It’s been raining too heavily, so the traces on the path must have disappeared, but Ah Xi should have left a mark, so go and look for it. Everyone else, eat and drink your fill. This time it’s a valuable tomb. The wealth may be enough to last for half a lifetime.”

The people gathered around were a little surprised, but Chen Pi Ah Si’s orders were absolute so they immediately started getting things ready. Chen Pi Ah Si then looked at Ah Bai Xiang and asked, “Are you going?”

Ah Bai Xiang shook his head, “No.”

The two men stared at each other in silence for a while, which had the people around them also following suit. The relationship between the boss and his right-hand man had suddenly become strained, which caught everyone by surprise, but Chen Pi Ah Si still didn’t get angry and just said indifferently, “Then keep an eye on this ancient corpse and Ah Xi. We won’t count on you this time.”

Ah Bai Xiang gave a resolute nod.

After everyone quickly ate and drank, Chen Pi Ah Si took the lead and jumped out of the tree. The scout had found the marks Ah Xi had left behind, so the group quickly entered the forest and followed them to the end.

Along the way, someone asked Chen Pi Ah Si, “Ah Xi has gone crazy and Ah Bai Xiang refuses to go. Master Si, is this place really dangerous?”

Chen Pi Ah Si grabbed the person by the throat and said, “When have we ever gone down to a place that wasn’t dangerous? Do you know why you didn’t die?”

The man couldn’t answer, so Chen Pi Ah Si continued, “It’s because I’m so powerful. Do you mean to say that without Ah Xi and Ah Bai Xiang here, I’m not powerful anymore?”

“Master Si, that’s not what I meant!” The man was on the brink of being strangled to death as Chen Pi Ah Si continued, “Coming here, you’ll either end up rich or end up dead. Do you think you still have a choice?”

With that said, Chen Pi Ah Si crushed the man’s throat. As soon as the body fell, Chen Pi Ah Si pushed it into the stream, and it was swept away towards the bottom of the mountain.

No one dared ask any more questions after that, and in less than an hour and a half, the scout sent a message saying that he had found something. Chen Pi Ah Si stepped forward and found that they had come to a valley. The floodwater down below was now knee-deep and submerged all the shrubs. There were countless eddies in the water, as if there were many holes discharging the water down the mountain.

The water rushing into the ground was making a thunderous sound. Obviously, no one could reach the tomb from here, so how exactly did Ah Xi manage to get down there? Chen Pi Ah Si was feeling restless. If he couldn’t find a way to enter that tomb, his prestige would be crushed by Ah Xi. Although he wasn’t afraid, he didn’t want to deal with this kind of trouble.

TN Notes:

(1) According to Baidu, “local cigarette” (alternatively “local tobacco”) is a term that comes from Fan Wenlan’s “Modern Chinese History”. At the end of the Qing Dynasty, domestic opium was used as local tobacco, which was symmetrical to “foreign tobacco” (aka snuff imported from abroad). So Chen Pi is probably smoking opium.

  1. So he used opium. I hope Wu Xie doesn’t see this as an effective way to deal with his current situation, and I’m afraid that in the absence of this kind of cigarette, he will somehow manage to find a snake instead.
Take your time. You did a great job already, thank you.

      1. I’m overthinking.😅 But considering the author’s interest in snakes, it’s strange that he hasn’t encountered one yet, which I hope he won’t.
