Chapter 9

The air was very cold. After getting off the plane, a car took the three of them through the downtown area and headed for Lake Kawaguchi.

The streets at night were full of many lights. Xie Yuchen and Black Glasses didn’t speak and just looked outside.

The car eventually stopped at a corner, where a middle-aged Russian was waiting. The window was rolled down and the Russian handed them four or five white cartons of cigarettes of an unknown brand.

The window was then rolled up and the car drove off. In the rearview mirror, the Russian could be seen watching them leave.

“I didn’t know you two were so addicted to smoking. This was all we could prepare on such short notice,” Zheng Jingyin said.

Black Glasses opened one of the cartons, took two packs for himself, and then threw the rest to Xie Yuchen.

Zheng Jingyin continued, “This car has a ventilation system so feel free to smoke.”

“You’ve misunderstood; we’re going to use these later.” Black Glasses tore open one of his packs, pulled a cigarette out, and looked at it carefully.

In addition to the cigarettes, lighters had also been included, all of which were windproof. He also tested these out as well.

Both men then put the cigarettes in their pockets.

Zheng Jingyin didn’t understand what Black Glasses meant but figured it was best not to ask.

“The spellcaster didn’t know the seriousness of their spellcasting so that’s why they stopped when they saw our warning,” Xie Yuchen said. “They should be questioning the person who deceived them. If I’ve guessed correctly, they’ll be silenced once they start asking questions so we should investigate any murders that happen in Tokyo after today.”

“How do you know they’ll be in Tokyo? Maybe they’re on some island,” Black Glasses said.

“I’ll explain later.” Xie Yuchen leaned back and closed his eyes.

Black Glasses didn’t continue asking. At this time, Zheng Jingyin suddenly spoke up, “We’ve arranged guest rooms in the annex for you. Do you have any special religious customs or would like some midnight snacks before you rest for the night? We’ll prepare them.”

Black Glasses didn’t answer him. Zheng Jingyin thought that they were in a daze and didn’t hear him so he repeated his question. Xie Yuchen replied, “The other party won’t wait too long. There’s no need to prepare anything tonight because no one will be able to sleep. Also, has anything strange happened in your young master’s home recently? If so, you can tell us about it.”

Zheng Jingyin looked at the driver, who shook his head, indicating that there was nothing abnormal.

“If not, then it must have happened in a place you can’t normally see,” Xie Yuchen said. “It doesn’t matter. Tell me about your young master’s past. The more detailed the better.”

“Ah.” Zheng Jingyin seemed at a total loss, as if this was a very difficult task. It seemed that it was difficult for him to find a place to start.

“To be honest, I think you guys might be more comfortable not knowing.”

  1. I don’t know why, but I suspect two people. One is Zheng Jingyin and the other is the daughter of the family. But with the author style of writing, I’m afraid both are wrong.

  2. Is this new? Or an old chapter just unearthed? Is the author fi ally writing more of this story? Or just giving us false hope? 😭 whyyyy does he leave all of his action stories hanging 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️
